At Write Your Best Book, our team of trained, highly skilled, professional editors (see bottom of page for profiles) specialize in all genres of fiction romance, suspense, thrillers, fantasy, paranormal, horror, sci-fi, historical fiction, picture books, children’s books, and much more!
We’ve also done extensive work with nonfiction books from memoirs to self-help and spiritual books.
We are also an LGBTQ+ friendly service, so feel free to submit your diverse fiction!
The only genre we prefer not to work with are those that exploit women and/or blurs the lines when it comes to dubious consent.
Our editing schedule is typically booked out at least 4 weeks, but we can often find room to squeeze in one new project, and we’re always on the lookout for fresh, new editors, so don’t stress too much about the start date. However, if you do need us to start working on your manuscript ASAP, please indicate that in your email when you submit your sample pages!
Please also note that we think of this service as a two-way street. While you can (and should) do thorough research on any editors you are considering working with (even us!), and while it’s completely within your right to choose a different editor if you feel they’re a better fit, it goes both ways. We are an incredibly busy, reputable, and in-demand editing service, so we cannot (sadly) take on every project for which we receive a submission. Like, you, we must consider several factors when evaluating your manuscript in order to determine if we’re a good match. Some of those factors include:
So, please keep this in mind when submitting to us. But don’t stress over this or worry that we’re “too picky.” In fact, we only turned down 5 manuscripts all of last year. The chances are high that we will be willing and able to provide you with editing service.
While our standard rates are published here on this page because we have nothing to hide, we have found that the best way to see if we’re a good match is for us to provide you with a FREE sample edit, exact quote, and turnaround time.
Your manuscript does not have to be completed (but should almost be), and you will never be pressured into signing on the dotted line right away. However, please be considerate of the fact that our editors are offering you free services and they are working hard to show you not only what they can do to help you but what they feel would make your manuscript shine. It’s a service we provide totally at no cost to you, even though it takes, on average 2 hours to complete each one. If you are just “window shopping” or if you’re “just curious” about editors and editing services, we recommend you spend some time on this site and others, learning about your options while you decide when you’ll be ready to make that commitment.
Please use the form on the CONTACT US page to submit your request for a FREE sample edit and request. You will then receive the easy to follow instructions via email. Once you submit the requested information and your first 5 pages, we’ll immediately start your sample edit and quote, and we’ll get it back to you in less than 48 hours GUARANTEED! (But the average turnaround time for sample edits is less than 24 hours!)
We’ll do a thorough line edit, as well as a content/developmental edit of your sample pages to show you all the things we can do for you.
Then, we’ll use our standard rate, and based on what we see in the sample and how much editing is needed, we’ll calculate what your exact fee would be, your payment plan options, and the estimated turnaround time.

Once you have had a chance to review our entire proposal package, you’ll notice that there’s a button inside the email you received with the sample and quote that says ACCEPT QUOTE. If you agree to our terms, turnaround time, and our fee, all you have to do is click that button, and you’ll automatically be funneled into our “New Client” system! Within 24 hours, you’ll receive the following:
Please note, however, while we will have provided you with all these things automatically because you clicked ACCEPT QUOTE, you are not officially our client UNTIL the agreement is electronically signed by both parties and the invoice for your first payment is paid. But once those are taken care of, that is when we’ll send another email asking you to attach your manuscript, and that’s when the fun begins!
This is completely fine. As we already mentioned, this is a two-way street. Even though we’ve made you an offer (which means we REALLY want to work with you), you are under no obligation to use to pick our services.
To help you decide, please be sure not to hold back any questions, comments, or concerns. Often, we find that there might be the slightest misunderstanding, especially since it’s a lot of information, and/or there might be something we can do to clarify or make changes to our proposal if need be.
We also do support your right to consider other offers. But we do offer this word of caution – please be super careful when seeking an editor! Sadly, as self-publishing has increased tremendously in popularity the past few years, the number of folks who call themselves editors has increased exponentially. They’re either inexperienced, not well trained, or not trustworthy. And even if you don’t decide to come onboard with us, we want you to be happy, satisfied, and safe, so please keep these important things in mind while researching editors:
All the above applies to me and my staff of editors, as well. I am super proud of my reputation in the writing community, and I only hire editors who are highly qualified, trained, and who have a natural skill for editing (and a minimum 5 years of experience).
If this is the case, that’s totally fine, too. While we’re sad because if I sent you a proposal, it means I truly wanted to work with you, above all else, I want you to be happy with your choice of editor. So, if that means you go with someone else, I will respect your decision and wish you the absolute best of luck. Here are the standard rates we use to calculate the rate and fee we will send in your quote along with your sample edit. Please keep in mind…this is a standard rate. We reserve the right to increase or even decrease said rate, depending on factors such as amount of editing required, level of skill from editor needed, time required to complete, as well as any current promotions/discounts we may be offering. Also note that, I do not only regularly monitor the industry standard rates, I also monitor my competitors’ rates (of similar skillset, training, and years in practice) and I always make sure to keep my rate below theirs.
